Bladder & Bowel Dysfunction
Your bladder and bowel issues shouldn't control your life.
Do you know where every bathroom is before you walk into a room? Do you plan your outings around bathroom access or avoid leaving the house altogether out of fear of leaking? Are you exhausted from dealing with constipation, urgency, or unpredictable bowel symptoms that no one seems to have answers for?
Have you been told this is just part of aging, or normal after having babies?
It's not. And you don't have to keep living this way.
At Anchor Pelvic Physical Therapy, we see women overcome bladder and bowel symptoms every single day.
Ready to jump on the trampoline without leaking? Stop wearing pads all the time just in case? Not have to rush through the grocery store to find a bathroom?
Pelvic floor physical therapy doesn't just improve these symptoms — it can eliminate them for good.
Common but not normal.
Incontinence and leaking after delivery is extremely common, but should not be written off as “normal”. Having to avoid your favorite exercises and wear a pad all the time is anything but normal. These symptoms point to pelvic floor dysfunction, and are fully treatable. Kegels are rarely the answer, and a pelvic floor assessment will guide treatment by allowing us to identify the root cause of your symptoms.
At Anchor Pelvic Therapy we treat the entire system to make sure we not only address your current symptoms, we solve the underlying problem and prevent any future issues.
Diagnoses & Symptoms We Treat
-
Whether you leak when you sneeze, laugh, jump, or exercise or find yourself rushing to the bathroom and not making it in time, urinary incontinence is one of the most common things we treat. It's also one of the most successfully treated. You don't have to wear pads or plan your life around it.
-
Feeling like you have to go constantly, or that the urge hits suddenly and intensely, is a sign your bladder and pelvic floor aren't working together the way they should. We'll help retrain that communication so you're back in control not your bladder.
-
Straining, incomplete emptying, or going days without a bowel movement isn't something you should just push through. Chronic constipation is often connected to pelvic floor muscle tension or poor coordination and pelvic floor therapy can make a significant difference when diet and hydration alone haven't solved the problem.
-
Accidental bowel leakage is one of the most under-reported and undertreated pelvic floor conditions largely because it feels too embarrassing to bring up. We want you to know: it's far more common than you think, and it's very treatable. You can regain control, and we'll help you get there without judgment.
-
If you've been diagnosed with IBS and are dealing with pelvic pain, bloating, urgency, or irregular bowel habits, your pelvic floor may be playing a bigger role than you realize. We work alongside your care team to address the muscular component of your symptoms and help your whole system function better.
-
Pregnancy and childbirth put enormous demands on the pelvic floor and the effects can show up in both bladder and bowel function. Leaking, urgency, constipation, or loss of bowel control after having a baby is common, but it is not normal. Whether you delivered vaginally or by C-section, pelvic floor therapy can help you fully recover and feel like yourself again.
What Causes Your Symptoms
Your pelvic floor muscles directly affect your bladder and bowel by providing structural support, pressure management, and sphincter control. When these muscles are too tight, too weak, or not coordinating the way they should, both systems can be affected. The result is symptoms that are unpredictable, embarrassing, and exhausting. What they are not, however, is permanent. Pelvic floor therapy can absolutely help.

Frequently Asked Questions About Treatment For Bladder & Bowel Dysfunction
-
If you're dealing with leaking, urgency, frequency, constipation, or difficulty controlling your bowel, your pelvic floor is almost certainly involved. These muscles control both your bladder and bowel, and when they aren't functioning well, both systems feel it. An evaluation with us will help identify exactly what's going on and what needs to be addressed.
-
No referral is needed. You can reach out and book directly with us at any time.

It is never too late. We regularly see women who have been managing these symptoms for a decade or more and still achieve significant, lasting improvement. The length of time you've had symptoms doesn't determine whether treatment will work, it just means we may need to be a little more patient and thorough in our approach.
-
Your treatment plan will be personalized to you and your life. While we may work on bowel and bladder habits as part of your care, everything is explained clearly and approached with sensitivity. There is nothing embarrassing about what we do here, and you'll never feel judged for what you're experiencing.
-
It's incredibly common, but it is not normal, and it is not something you just have to accept because you've had children. Pelvic floor physical therapy can help you regain full control, whether you delivered six weeks ago or six years ago.
-
We hear this more than you might think, and it doesn't mean pelvic floor therapy can't work for you. It may mean the approach wasn't the right fit, the root cause wasn't fully identified, or something was missed along the way. We take the time to understand what you've already tried and why it may not have gotten you where you needed to go. Our evaluation is thorough, our approach is individualized, and we're not going to hand you a generic exercise program and call it a day. If pelvic floor physical therapy is the right path for you, we'll make sure it actually works this time. We also build on our incredible network of referral partners to get you to the best medical and support team for your specific symptoms. We can’t do it all and it is sometimes the combination of the right providers including pelvic floor therapy that leads to lasting results.
-
Kegels are not the answer for everyone, and doing them when your pelvic floor is already too tight can actually make symptoms worse. Pelvic floor dysfunction isn't always about weakness and it isn’t always about just the pelvic floor. It's often about coordination, tension, weak core, weak glutes, poor pressure management or a combination of all of it. We'll figure out exactly what your body needs instead of defaulting to a one size fits all solution.
Change is possible.
Whether you've been managing bladder and bowel symptoms for months or years, pelvic floor therapy can absolutely help. Your body is asking for support, and we are here to provide it.
